A Major Shift Coming to 'Jane By Design'
Jane Quimby isn't the only one still marveled by her good fortune (killer job, amazing wardrobe, hot love interests) -- Erica Dasher is equally grateful for everything (killer job, amazing wardrobe, hot love interests) that's come her way since landing the lead role on Jane By Design.
And while Erica's status as ABC Family star isn't in jeopardy, she tells me that Jane's job might not be as secure in the coming weeks as a few major bombs are set to rock Donovan Decker!
TheInsider.com: One of the biggest developments with the back-half of this season has been the introduction of Teri Hatcher as Kate, Jane's estranged mother. What's it been like having her on set?
Erica Dasher: It's really been so much fun. For a while it was rumored that she might do it, so every day I was asking the producers, "Did Teri say yes? Did Teri say yes?" I was such a big Desperate Housewives fan, so I was thrilled. Especially as a young actor, I wanted the chance to work with her and it's been such a gift. This season, with the introduction of Jane's mom and Zoey and Eli, all these dynamics are shifting, which is going to be very exciting for fans.

Insider.com: Plus, you two make a convincing mother and daughter, which is often not the case.
Erica: Well, that's very flattering. When they said Teri was going to play my mom, I thought, "Yay! I’m going to grow up and be hot!" [laughs]
Insider.com: What excites you about the character developments that arise as a result of Kate being back?
Erica: Obviously having her mother back creates an interesting dynamic in the household that's grounded in really heavy stuff. That's fun to delve into as an actor and I think it's great for the audience too because they see a different side of Ben, a different side of me and this story about a mother who hasn't been present for her child's life coming back into it isn't something you see very often. I'm excited to dig into that more.
Insider.com: Obviously Jane's love life is a big part of the show -- but which guy do you think she should end up with?
Erica: When all is said and done, at the end of the day, I think, in my heart – and I know our creator feels the same way -- it's got to be Billy. There's so much love between those two. But the journey will be long. It won't be happening any time soon.
Insider.com: Tonight's episode features Christian Siriano and Tamara Mellon -- they're two of countless designers who have participated, either by filming cameos or offering clothes, in the first season. How exciting has it been to see the fashion industry support the show like this?
Erica: It's absolutely incredible! Although it's really depressing to come home to my own closet after working on Jane [laughs]. I grew up in suburban Texas – I've never really been terribly educated about fashion. So this has been such a fantasy to delve into. Getting to wear these beautiful clothes, and meet these amazing people, is such a help in terms of becoming Jane.
Insider.com: You've just wrapped the season, what are you excited for fans to see in the remainder of the episodes?
Erica: There's a major shift coming in Jane and Billy's relationship that might be very controversial with fans. Also, towards the end of the season, Jane's worlds collide in a very major way, which is something to definitely keep an eye out for.
Insider.com: Maybe her secret is exposed? I mean, how long can she really lead these double lives?
Erica: I can't say, but I feel like there will come a point where Jane is forced – or someone outs her. I don't know how long she can really keep that up for. I mean, if she can do it for years, good for her [laughs] but I have a feeling she'll be outed at some point. What that means for her world, where there's moles and intrigue, I don't know, but it'll be fun to watch.
