Nope, the mug shot you're looking at isn't real. It's a scene from Mel Gibson's new action-comedy that's being swept under the rug with a Video On Demand release. Not surprising, given the incredibly bad press the former Lethal Weapon star-turned-tumultuous, accused anti-Semite has been receiving just this week alone.

Mel Gibson's War of Words with 'Maccabee' Scribe

In Get the Gringo, co-written by the Braveheart Oscar winner, Mad Mel plays an American criminal who makes a run for the border, only to be captured and dropped in a hard-core Mexican prison. There, he learns the ropes and gets involved with a beautiful woman and her young, street-smart kid.

The film, which has been sitting on the shelf for quite some time, was originally titled How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Lots of punches and slaps in this one, but it actually looks pretty entertaining, tapping the talents of the Mel we once knew and loved.

No 'Mad' Mel Cameo

It's not The Beaver, but Mel does seem to have a clown companion along for the ride in Gringo. Maybe it's not too late for him to pursue a career in ventriloquism. Then he won't be responsible for some of the vile things that come out of a dummy's mouth.

You can find Get the Gringo on VOD via DirecTV on May 1.
