Opening up for the first time since her split from Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis gave some insight into the murky details of the couple's breakup in an interview with French Elle (via People.com).
Paradis and Depp have fiercely guarded their private lives and what contributed to the end of their 14-year relationship, but Paradis did at least reveal how she feels about the breakup.
"I don't have the recipe for happiness, but I think the engine is simply having the desire," she said. "It's not feeling obliged or forced or repeating yourself."
"I hate, for example, whenever you hear someone say: 'You have to work at being a couple,'" she continued. "No, you have to want to be there ... And for me, I want to be right where I am right now.'"
Paradis and Depp have two children together: Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 10, who will reportedly attend school in Los Angeles while their mom splits her time between the U.S. and France.
